Position Summary
As part of the engineering department, this person is responsible for the design, modeling, and delivery of technical documentation for our various forestry machines, while working closely with engineers, technicians, and production teams to design mechanical solutions that are high-performing, durable, and suited to the demands of intensive forestry environments.
Key Responsibilities
Design and modeling
- Create and modify 2D technical drawings and 3D models using CAD software (SolidWorks, DraftSight, etc.)
- Design mechanical parts, assemblies, and subsystems for our machines
- Develop detailed manufacturing drawings including tolerances, materials, surface treatments, welding, and technical specifications
- Conduct design analyses to optimize equipment durability, wear resistance, and maintainability
Technical documentation
- Produce and maintain bills of materials (BOM) and complete technical files
- Write assembly instructions, maintenance guides, and basic hydraulic and electrical diagrams
- Manage documentation in accordance with internal standards (revisions, archiving, change control)
- Prepare technical quotes and specifications for subcontractors and suppliers
Collaboration and technical support
- Collaborate with the engineering team during design, prototyping, and validation phases
- Support production by interpreting drawings and resolving technical issues on the shop floor
- Participate in design reviews and propose continuous improvements to existing products
- Coordinate with purchasing to confirm the availability and compliance of components
Desired Profile
- College diploma (DEC) in mechanical engineering, vocational diploma (DEP) in industrial drafting, or a related field
- Any equivalent combination of relevant experience and education will be considered
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial drafting, ideally in heavy machinery, forestry equipment, or manufacturing
- Experience with manufacturing environments (an asset)
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes: welding, machining, forming, heat treatment
- Understanding of hydraulic systems
- Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings
- Knowledge of industry standards (ASME, ISO, AWS)
- Rigor, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Team spirit and excellent communication skills
- Autonomy, technical curiosity, and a desire for continuous learning
What Success Looks Like
After 6 months: You are autonomous in our CAD standards and revision processes; your first drawings and BOMs go to production without rework, and the shop comes to you directly.
After 12 months: Complete documentation of a subsystem from A to Z, while flagging manufacturability and maintainability issues before the part is cut.
